CMV Esophagitis

CMV is shorthand for the tongue twister, cytomegalovirus. This infection tends to attack people whose immune systems have been injured as with chemotherapy or HIV infection. The image shows scattered, whitish ulcerations merging together. The infection causes pain in the esophagus when food or liquid is swallowed.
